PATAGONIA 2023 CERRO MESA TO INGENIERO JACOBACCI 5 September 2023

The itinerary for the second day of our Patagonia tour included an early morning departure from Cerro Mesa southbound through the Rio Chico gorge, across the girder bridge, and through the tunnel, before reversing back to Cerro Mesa. The track south of the tunnel on towards Chacay Hurruca, Fitalanco and Norquinco wasn’t deemed serviceable at the time of our visit. After returning to Cerro Mesa the train was to be reversed for the journey back to Ingeniero Jacobacci. As usual, the itinerary was only a guide to the day’s events and also, as usual, the actuality proved to be more adventurous and memorable! This is a long video, in keeping with travel in Patagonia, so find a spare 76 minutes and settle back ready to be mesmerised! There’s a distinct risk that the motion of the train and the rhythmic beat of the locomotive will rock you to sleep, but stick with it; this may be the closest you’ll get to a genuine Patagonian narrow gauge railway experience, without leav
