Hiking Huashan - China’s Sacred Mountain

In August 2010, I climbed Mt. Huashan (华山) with my friend Dan. Huashan is one of China’s “sacred peaks,“ making it a very popular tourist destination for Chinese and foreigners alike. Not far from Xi’an, Huashan is a highly developed mountain with hiking paths, food and drink vendors and even hotels reaching the highest points on the four main peaks. Previously a favorite venue for Taoist hermits to come meditate, Huashan is now easily accessible from several hiking paths and even a cable car that runs up to the North peak. As such, it can be quite crowded, which can be a bit distracting from the gorgeous view. Read more about my experience here: and here: Music is Lemon Jelly - Elements
