I colorized, restored and created a sound design for this video of Italy 1940s, During the World War II, soldiers had the opportunity to visit places of historical interest. We start at Pompeii Soldiers visit the ancient city of Pompeii, with Mount Vesuvius visible in the distance. They explore the bustling streets and ruins, crossing crumbled buildings and ancient arches. Shots capture columns, palm trees, and a distant ruined staircase. A scene shows soldiers gazing over a massive ruin while smoking, as the camera captures panoramic views of the remnants of this city, devastated by the volcanic eruption.
Rome: soldiers stroll through a bustling square and admire the grand Roman structures. A Roman amphitheater or coliseum, currently used as a soccer field, is highlighted. Architectural details, such as a row of athletic statues and dramatic angles, are captured by the camera. The soldiers also explore the Catacombs of San Callisto and the iconic Colosseum, along with other landmarks like the Arch of Constantine and the Roman Forum.
Leghorn (Livorno) Soldiers move through the streets of Livorno, observing recently demolished buildings, likely due to the war. They relax on a beach reserved for American military personnel, enjoying the glistening ocean and sunbathing. The camera shows a lively beach scene with soldiers in swimsuits, open-air structures where men eat and chat, and daily life along this Italian coastline.
Pisa: captures Pisa’s skyline, with the famous Leaning Tower in the background. Soldiers take in views of the city from the top of the tower, while the bell tolls in the distance. A religious procession moves through the streets, featuring a richly adorned coffin. Shots focus on the city from above, offering unique perspectives of this historic location.
Florence: soldiers explore ruined buildings and historic landmarks such as the Ponte Vecchio, Santa Maria Novella, and the Duomo. They observe large statues, including the famous David, and relax in the busy streets of the city. The camera captures the architectural details of this city rich in history, along with scenes of military life amidst these cultural treasures.

Kilgore is believed to have been a member of the Amateur Cinema League, the oldest amateur filmmaker’s club in the United States and his zeal for the technology of film is evidenced by his use of sound and color film.
