The last Ascona Specials 2013 concert will introduce us to the world of The Puppini Sisters, a female vocal trio which embrace the tradition of 1940’s swing and jazz a cappella singing. Just like the Andrews Sisters brought this genre to the top between ’38 and ’51, the Pupppini have become a symbol of swing-pop all over the world. The trio was founded by Marcella Puppini, Bologna native now living in London, which after completing her Fashion design degree at the St. Martin School of Art then continued her studies at the Trinity College of Music in London, where she encountered the other two original group members, Rosanna Shura - who was later replaced by Stephanie O’Brien - and Kate Mullins. Marcella took the inspiration for this project from the cartoon film The triplets of Belleville (Belleville Rendez-vous). In July 2012 Stephanie O’ Brien was replaced by Terrianne Passingham, a talented vocalist (she combines her love for old school swing with a goth/punk background) and musician (flute and saxophone). During eight years of career the Puppini Sisters have received many a compliment by fans such as HRH Prince Charles and the renowned artist Cyndi Lauper, won gold and platinum discs, played on the most important and prestigious stages (such as the Olympia in Paris and The Sheperd’s Bush Empire) and have collaborated with a variety of bands, both in the Elettro Swing as in traditional Jazz. In the two first recordings, Betcha Bottom Dollar (2006) and The Rise and Fall of Ruby Woo (2007) the singers rearranged great classics and hits of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s in jazz keys. After the release of Christmas with the Puppini Sisters in 2009, album of Christmas classics covers, they were invited to duet on Michael Bublé’s album Christmas in 2011 and again recently during the singer’s Christmas concert 2012. On the 7th November 2011 the trio published Hollywood, record composed entirely by cover songs of film soundtracks. - See more at: #
