Gilgal Rephaim | Wheel of the Giants | Massive Canaanite Ruins in the Bible Lands | Megalithomania
Gilgal Rephaim (Wheel/Circle of the Giants) is known as Rujm el-Hiri in Arabic (translating to “stone heap of the wild cat“). It is an ancient megalithic monument consisting of concentric circles with a stone cairn covering a dolmen in the middle. It is located in the Golan Heights (part of Syria, occupied by Israel), 12 miles east of the coast of the Sea of Galilee, in the middle of a large plateau covered with hundreds of dolmens, earthworks and cairns. It dates to between 4500 BC and 2500 BC and is the legendary area of Bashan where the giant King Og was said to have ruled from. It is incredibly hard to get to, as it’s in a military zone, and you need off-road vehicles to get there. To the north of it further ruins sit upon a serpent-shape hill which may have been deliberately terraformed like this in ancient times. Includes exclusive aerial footage.
