Donkelheet (Luxembourg) - Wann d’nuet rifft (Demo 1998)

The tenth demo by this elusive Blackened Funeral Doom project from Luxembourg. One of the earliest projects mixing these styles I believe, having released its first demo in 1994, only predated by the Switzerland legends, Mordor. With Doudesgaard being its only constant member and mastermind, a man who was involved in other equally obscure acts, the only notorious one having been Black Candle, Donkelheet released a series of mostly private demos and disbanded in 2003 after a split with Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. Ultra-slow, dragging dirges of rotting melancholy and suicidal torment, one can definitely see a more Blackened and decaying atmosphere here, being one more step into Black Metal than Mordor, sounding rather closer to the sound later done by Nortt, or more recently by Bosque, with a similar sepulchral atmosphere, like spaced, droning chords, echoing through the granite walls of an abandoned monastery. Self-released on tape, limited to 10 copies. Pressed on CDr by Raven Prod, the label’s only release.
