U-Boat Engine Start in the Kiel-Wik Engine Museum

A Demonstration of the MWM RS 34 S Marine Diesel Engine in the Kiel-Wik Engine Museum. The Video shows starting up the Engine and some Information about its History. Originally, this Engine Type was designed by Motorenwerke Mannheim as Auxilary Engine for the Battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz. It then was used as small marching Engine on the Type IX D2 Submarine and as Main Engine on the Type XXIII Submarine. This particular Engine here was intended for the latter and repurposed as Emergency Generator after the War.
