Sabâ Fuga by Johannes Keller for Archiorgano & Microtonal Guitar

This piece is the result of an experiment: The inventor of the Arciorgano, Nicola Vicentino, says in 1561 the following: “On this instrument it is possible [...] to play and sing all kinds of songs in all of the idioms that are natural to all the peoples of the world. When the master of the Arciorgano hears a person from Spain, France, Poland, England, Turkey or a Jewish person sing, he or she will be able to notate, play and sing the tune, although all nations have a different musical pronounciation. Furthermore it will be possible to create a four part setting, combining the melodies with consonances and harmony.“ The theme of this little fuga is the first phrase of a Turkish piece in Sabâ Makam. This performance is the proof that Vicentino’s claim is correct: Turkish melodies can be combined with a polyphonic setting, using the Arciorgano.
