Yoshiaki Numata 130 lbs beat Raul Rojas 130 lbs by KO at 2:47 in round 5 of 15 Date: 1970-09-27 Location: Nihon University Auditorium, Tokyo, Japan Referee: Hiroyuki Tezaki 18-17 Judge: Ken Morita 18-18 Judge: Takeo Ugo 18-18 Numata down in 4th, Rojas down in 2nd, 5th. “Yoshiaki Numata of Japan retained his WBC junior lightweight title Sunday night by knocking out challenger Raul Rojas of San Pedro, Calif., in the 5th round of their scheduled 15 round title match. The finish was amazing because Rojas had floored Numata for a nine count knockdown in the 4th round and had Numata almost helpless defending himself in a neutral corner early in the 5th round. Numata stunned Rojas, as well as a crowd of 7,000 at the Nihon University Auditorium by landing a long right uppercut to the jaw and Rojas went down flat on his back. He tried to rise, but his knees wobbled and he fell down to take the full count at 2:47 of the 5th round.“ -United Press International “The referee did not start counting until he took me to a neutral corner. What was the timekeeper doing? I figured that the knockdown was at least for a 12 count.“ -Raul Rojas, complaining there was a slow count given to Numata in the 4th round. “I bet everything on the 5th round - to be downed or down Rojas.“ -Yoshiaki Numata
