Orkblut (Belgium) - Ghost Paths to Septentrion (MLP 2023)

The return from this mighty Belgian act, part of the stellar Ancient Hounds collective, delivering unbridled atavistic force through several acts such as Selenite Scrolls, Regnum Tenebrarum, Crypts of Wallachia and Phlegethon’s Majesty. The projects third release, and what is definitely a year highlight for me, following up to their 2020 demo, “Shadowmancer of the Haunted Knolls“ and the “Awakening Of The Boreal Juggernauts“ EP from last year. Another killer piece or blackened sorcerous blizzard and fury, Orkblut delivers over half-an-hour of freezing, hellish Black Metal. Delivered with pure hatred and obssession, Orkblut takes inspiration from the endless, cycling northern winds, carrying the bonecrushing cold and desolate snowstorms from the septentrion, to crash torment upon the living. Carryed by the excellently executed old currents of acts such as Judas Iscariot, Veles, or even the more Tolkien-esque, medieval nostalgic grandeur of bands like Nargaroth or Graveland, Orkblut proves once again that simplicity can more often be the path to greatness and to capture the true spirit of the streams of inspiration.
