The wings of cassowaries are rudimentary, with flight feathers reduced to 5-6 needle-like trunks (from 6 to 20 cm long in adult birds). The natives of New Guinea like to use these feathers most of all as ornaments for the nose and ceremonial clothes. On the main finger of the wing there is a claw - a primitive heritage of reptiles.
