Many people wonder why we are so tactile with our orphaned flying-foxes and how they manage to disassociate with humans and eventually live a successful life in the wild. We operate under tried and tested protocols that ensure all our orphans emotional and physical needs are met and they also ensure we start withdrawing from their lives allowing them to grow into healthy well adjusted juveniles ready for release. Wild mother bats are our teachers and they show us exactly what their babies require when in care. Loving, tactile and affectionate, flying-fox mothers dote on their youngsters until they reach that annoying teenage stage when they start to distance themselves. This natural cycle is timed to coincide with mating the following year and as one generation is conceived, the previous generation is flying out into the world ready to begin a new chapter in their young
