Creating an Ambient Bass Sound With Just GarageBand Effects - Rob Allen Deep 4 Fretless Bass

This track uses only the effects that come preloaded with GarageBand to create a big, ambient bass sound. No external effects, apps, or AUv3s. While Garageband is easy to use, has great sounds and effects, and interacts well within the Apple ecosystem, it also has some maddening features. Particularly, once you hit the record button most of the effect controls are not usable, so you can’t do any real-time tweaking. Regardless, that’s exactly what I did. I set up a bunch of modulation, delay, and reverb effects that are part of GarageBand to make a wide, expansive sound and stuck with that for the whole recording. I use the “clean“ direct vocal setting, which worked better than using one of GarageBand’s bass amp and pedal effects. This is just an improv using this ambient sound; playing live with no looping. Apologies for a few spots of dodgy intonation. The bottom line is, yes, you can make a huge ambient sounds with GarageBand. And this would work with any instrument, not just the bass (in this case, my Rob Allen Deep 4 fretless).
