Ambience/ASMR: Sherlock Holmes Parlour, 221B Baker Street (Victorian London), 4 Hours

List of Sounds: - the labyrinthine streets in a city of millions resounding with the drumbeat of a million hooves: the light & agile trot of a horse & hansom cab over wide boulevards; the tinny clip-clop of a pony & cart through a narrow, reverberating alley; the steady gait of a draught horse & dray, with the squeaks & strains & shifts of heavy cargo; the quick rumble of a hackney “growler,“ once stately enough, decades ago, to be called a clarence carriage; the stodgy, reliable plodding of a double-deck horse-tram or omnibus; the confident stride of conspicuously well-kept horses bearing an occasional road-coach, some may say for “sport,“ others for frivolity - the quick, directive whistling of drivers & the neighing of their charges - the abrupt whiz & whir of a bicycle, dodging obstacles of both man and horse - the rap & tap & shuffle of footsteps in continuous pedestrian procession, sometimes fashionably booted, sometimes shoed in tatters, sometimes with the alacrity & directness of vigorous adulthood, sometimes with the halting unsteadiness of earliest youth & latest senescence - the pointed exclamations of merchants & hawkers that pierce through the din of feet & hooves, somehow striking the ideal balance between commanding and inviting; the rustling of paper sacks as purchases are packed & handed over before there can be any second thoughts about buying - the fragmentary & indistinct conversations of passersby woven into an endless recitation, a dialogue too incomprehensibly vast to convey any meaning other than the fundamental, droning music of humanity, the song of life announcing itself; this chorus of numberless voices is sometimes heard (or felt) in cities as a buzz, a rumble, a low roar - the rhythmic chanting of a rag-and-bone man calling out for scrap iron, with a near-religious power and cadence - the swishing brooms of street-sweepers, diligent though underpaid - the sporadic, staccato chirping of house-sparrows, perfectly suited to the pace of the city in both habit and song - indoors, the crackle of a tidy fire, sometimes jostled peevishly with a poker as the faculties struggle to give shape to a formless knowing - footsteps that pace across the small length of the room -- back, forth, back, forth -- until they are halted by a sudden movement of mind - the picking-up, flipping-through, and discarding of books, with the wandering dissatisfaction that comes before the epiphany - intense spurts of writing -- sometimes just circling, underlining, crossing away -- followed by long pauses, as if it is the otherworldly “automatic writing“ of a medium rather than the workings of an analytical intellect - the striking of a match; the lighting of a pipe; the long breaths in; the slow, hazy exhalations - the patient turning of newspaper pages by a patient companion * Question: What is an ambience video? Answer: Pleasant, soothing background images & sound for relaxation, study, play, or work; gently occupies an anxious or unfocused mind without causing unwanted distraction; creates a comfortable, inviting atmosphere; personalizes sparse, colorless, or impersonal environments; enlivens spaces where we live or work alone; fills silence with more subtlety, ease, and warmth than music or TV; offers softly dynamic “rainbow noise“ instead of monotonous white noise; enhances interior design & personal style by turning screens/screensavers into live photographic displays. * A NOTE ON ADS: This channel attempts to be ad-free and noncommercial, in resistance to ever-more-intrusive, ever-more-ubiquitous ads and the promotion of unsustainable, dehumanizing consumerism.
