SWS Team Taw presents The Red Poppy 2018

South Western Scottish is a project-based team of 20 dancers from the south west region of England. The Red Poppy was first performed in 1986 by a Scottish team of Officer Cadets before HM The Queen at The Festival of Remembrance in London to commemorate the 70th anniversary of The Battle of The Somme. This performance is dedicated as a contribution from Scottish country dancers to the commemorations marking the Armistice Day Centenary on Remembrance Day 2018 and to honour the dance devisor, Stanley Wilkie (1927-2017) of RSCDS Edinburgh. Music:- Arranged by Chris Dewhurst and played by Chris and Julie Dewhurst. It is a medley of tunes by James Scott Skinner comprising 64 bars of strathspey, ’The Iron Man’ and ’Castle Spynie’, and a 64 bar reel, ’The Queen’s welcome to Invercauld’. It will be included on a CD called ’Short and Sweet’ to be recorded in 2019 by Chris Dewhurst and his band.
