Youth Parliament (1948)

Finsbury, London. Various shots show the formation of a Junior Town Council in the borough of Finsbury with natural sound. The public area is made up of teenagers; a few adults look on. The official Mayor, Councillor Barrie, hands his mace and chain to 19-year-old Henry Murrell (he looks about 40). Henry takes his place and asks for nominations for office of Junior Town Clerk. George Allen is nominated and duly takes his place, putting on his wig. Teenagers applaud. He makes a nice speech giving his thanks for his nomination and says he hopes to be an efficient Town Clerk. Various shots follow as the council and public debate the use of a bomb site for a new car park. A letter is read out, signed by William Smith and Son, who have business premises near the site and request that they be allowed to use the area for parking cars and delivery vans. A rather plummy boy (Junior Borough Engineer) gives us the size and location of the site. A girl stands up and proposes the site be used as a cyc
