Anthony Burgess – Selected Piano Pieces

This video has been made possible by the kind permission of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation ➡️ Anthony Burgess (1917-1993) is nowadays mostly known for his literary output: his name has been made popular by Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of his novel A Clockwork Orange, but his other works encompass a wide range of genres, including sci-fi/dystopian, historical, bios, comic/grotesque (The Wanting Seed, 1985, the Malayan Trilogy, Napoleon Symphony...). But, as Burgess himself said: “I wish people would think of me as a musician who writes novels, instead of a novelist who writes music on the side.“ The International Anthony Burgess Foundation offers many pages dedicated to his music, and yet a vast amount of his works are still unpublished and unperformed. In this video, I present a selected number of piano pieces for which both recordings and scores are currently available. Richard Casey is playing, from the album The Piano Music of Anthony Burgess.
