Machig Labdron — Dakini Mantra by Chogyal Rinpoche

This mantra has been deeply embedded in my subconscious since childhood. In our monastery there were some Chöd practitioners, so I kept hearing this wonderful melody accompanied by the blowing of human bones and the sound of big drums. The Chöd practice is one of the eight major lineages of transmission in Tibetan Buddhism based on the wisdom teachings (skt. prajnaparamita) of the Buddha. The practice was founded by Machig Labdron, who lived from 1055-1154. Chöd practice and Machig Labdron represent for me the feminine nature of enlightenment state and energy. When I was practicing Chöd in Tibet together with my teacher Repa Tsultrim Tharchin, I decided to chant this mantra, which is not only related to Machig Labdron’s Chöd practice, but is also the general mantra of all Dakinis. ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་བྂ་གུ་རུ་ཧ་རི
