Lev Oborin plays Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No.2

Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor (S244) is composed in 1847 and dedicated to Count Laszlo Teleky. It was first published as a piano solo in 1851. Its immediate success and popularity on the concert stage soon led to an orchestrated version. Additionally, Liszt arranged a piano duet version in 1874. Most unusual in this composition is the composer’s invitation for the performer to improvise an original Cadenza, although most pianists choose to decline the invitation. ~ Lev Nikolayevich Oborin (1907 - 1974) Russian pianist, composer, conductor. He initially studied with Yelena Gnessin, a pupil of Ferruccio Busoni. At the same time, he studied composition with Alexander Gretchaninov. In 1921, Oborin was accepted into Moscow Conservatory as a student of piano and composition. He completed his piano studies in 1926 under Igumnov.
