Algeria: Anti-government protests resume under tight security measures

Subscribe to our channel! The ’Hirak’ (popular) movement organised a protest against the government for the 112th consecutive week in Algiers on Friday amid a heavy presence of security forces. Immediately after the Friday Prayers, crowds marched the streets of Al Qasabam Bab Al Wad, Hassiba Ben Bouali, Mourad Didouche and Hussein Asla, among many other main streets, to denounce the upcoming legislative elections. “I say that united Algerians are peaceful, and want to move to a new Algeria. This rhetoric that intimidates people and accuses them of treachery and terrorism is used by the political system to implement its method and force some Algerians to abandon their movement”, Mustaf Boushashi, a lawyer and activist said.
