Today we’re taking a look at some special handmade watercolors from Beam Paints. Beam Paints is the result of a multi-generational love of pigment, paint, color, and innovation, founded by Anong Beam on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. She calls on her early education in Indigenous paint making, focusing on high quality pigments to create non-toxic, plastic free artist materials. In this video, we’re looking at the Minjeemin palette which is made from beeswaxed canvas, hand-stitched to create wells, and finished with sustainable deer hide. The well-like pockets hold paintstones, their version of a half pan. These watercolors are made from pigments, gum arabic, tree sap, and Manitoulin honey.
