Megaday: Ben Hildred climbs the height of K2 in 24 hours.

The rules of a KTWO are simple: climb the height of K2 (8611m) within a 24 hour period, you can’t use the same climb twice, and it’s self-supported. Simple, right? Ben Hildred has already completed an Everest (climbing 8848m in 24 hours), then climbed the equivalent of the stratosphere (55,000m) in 30 days, and then matched Mars’ tallest mountain, Olympus Mons, at 21,287m in 72 hours, and then pedaled one million feet in 200 days. In 2022 he set his sights on a one day blitz around Queenstown, NZ just before winter really set in. The route he set covered 8629m of vert over 216km. It took him 23 hours. Oh, and he does all of these things on a mountain bike. This time he took out his new Santa Cruz Megatower and Callum Wood followed along to photograph the whole thing. The day was captured by Callum Wood who put together this stunning photo slideshow. Find Callum Wood: *NOTE TO ALL FANS OF BEN HILDRED: He’s more recently exceeded this feat by doing a double Everest on MTB singletrack. We’re looking forward to the film from that epic by our friends at@SRAM . Our first bike, the Tazmon, was a single pivot dual suspension bike that rattled established sensibilities and helped define our then- ethos of “simply advanced.“ That bike was the cornerstone for a brand that was founded on the notion of doing things our own way in order to build the best. We have been rattling sensibilities ever since. Get the full story: #santacruzbicycles #megatower #megatower2
