Robert Duran vs Esteban De Jesus II - WBA World Lightweight Championship

Roberto Duran is nowadays more commonly remembered for his rivalry with Sugar Ray Leonard during the 1980’s but he actually had another fierce rivalry during the 1970’s with a Puerto Rican legend, Esteban De Jesus. Duran and De Jesus both debuted in the late 1960’s and both established themselves as credible Lightweight contenders. Duran was known for his attacking prowess and hands of stone where De Jesus was more technical but just as exciting and both fought frequently taking very little breaks between contests. Although small even for lightweight standards standing only 5’4“ tall, De Jesus went undefeated in his first 26 fights and won the Puerto Rico Lightweight title in 1971.
