Written in 1917, this composition was first performed by Rachmaninoff in 1931, at Juilliard School in New York, and wasn’t published until 1938. One of the last compositions written before composer’s hasty departure from Russia, this musical sketch was contemporaneous with Op. 39, in which it could effortlessly disguise.
