Zelensky met with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Ukrainian president visited Washington on Tuesday, 12 December 2023 after President Joe Biden requested an additional $110 billion US aid package for Ukraine Israel and other national security needs. The request for aid is at risk of collapse in Congress as Republicans insist on stricter Mexico border security changes in exchange for any Ukraine aid.
