Rudolf Kerer (Kehrer): Recital in Moscow 1992 (Beethoven, Prokofiev, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner, Grieg)

Rudolf Kerer (1923-2013) was one of the great pianists of the Russian piano school. Unfortunately for him (and for us), his life was not easy. Although Rudolf studied in the school for gifted children in Tbilisi (a city that gave the world so many great musicians!) and was that close to continue his studies with Henrich Neuhaus in Moscow, it wasn’t meant to happen. The WWII broke out. Being a “Russian German” in Soviet Union at that time meant exile, tight restrictions in just about everything and deprivation of proper schooling. Only much later, after 30(!), Rudolf Kerer managed to continue his study, in particular, with another great pianist Maria Grinberg. Very soon he won the All-Union piano competition. At 37! Four more years – and Rudolf Kerer was invited to teach at the famed Moscow Conservatory. Arthur Moreira Lima and Jorge Luis Prats were among his students.
