Alexander Gavrylyuk (19:06) This probably isn’t even the most difficult coda to a Prokofiev Piano Sonata (I would rank those as the 8th, 4th, and then this one tied with the 6th), however it is the most often performed! The return of the “A” material in the third movement of Prokofiev’s 7th Sonata is a big climb to a wild rock n roll finish. Who did it best? There is a such a wide range of tempi and approach! God of the piano Sokolov takes a measured approach with colossal sound and insane levels of attack and articulation, Buniatishvili takes an unhinged chaotic approach with….results? And did anyone else not know that GLENN GOULD played this? Entertaining/Interesting to note how many pianists do this movement as an encore right after a concerto.
