Typhoon Mawar Brings Huge Waves and Rainstorms to Wakayama, Japan Tropical storm, front bring heavy rain to Japan’s western prefectures. Japanese weather officials say bands of thick thunderclouds are causing heavy downpours in western Japan’s Kochi, Wakayama and Nara prefectures. They warn that these thundercloud bands could also develop over the Tokai and Kantokoshin regions, resulting in heavy rain. They attribute the lingering presence of these clouds from western to eastern Japan to a front and the influx of moist air from the vicinity of Tropical Storm Mawar in the Pacific.
