Anti-Immigration Protests Erupt into Riots Across Britain

The UK has been convulsed by some of the worst violence seen in recent years, with mob targeting hotels housing asylum seekers and mosques. With many cities hit, police have zeroed in on far right groups seen as driving the anti-immigration protests. The violence was triggered on July 29 after three girls, aged six to nine, were killed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance event for children in Southport, northern England. Eight other children and two adults were injured. A 17-year-old male was arrested, and false rumors on social media claimed the suspect was an Islamist migrant, sparking violent anti-Muslim protests the next day and an attempted attack on the town’s mosque. The teenager, who has been charged with murder and attempted murder, was born in Britain, and the police are not treating the incident as terrorism. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was elected just over a month ago, has come down hard on ani-immigrant groups and right wing thugs, warning that he wil not spare them and they will be dealt with harshly.
