AETHYRIEN - Berserkr (The Henbane Experience)

AETHYRIEN - Berserkr (The Henbane Experience) A berserker (Old Norse: berserkr) was a legendary Viking warrior thought to be immune to iron and fought in a brutal trance-like state. It has been debated for years whether or not berserkers consumed some sort of plant or mushroom before battle to obtain their brutal behavior. The Amanita muscaria mushroom was thought to be the source of their madness, however recent studies suggest henbane (part of the nightshade family) may be more believable. The flower produces the same effects written in the old texts describing these fierce men. Mix in the references of taking on the primal behaviors of beasts such as bears and wolves, the Berserkers were not exactly the good guys either. Without knowing the difference at times between friend and foe, they would absolutely obliterate anyone in their path. There is a legend of the Stamford Bridge where a Viking berserker single-handedly held off the enemy line for two hours while the rest of his warriors regrouped. He finally died after being stabbed from underneath the bridge by long spears. With influences of shamanism, psychedelics, and cinematic soundtracks, I was greatly inspired to write a song that gave life to these warriors pairing the driving beat with visuals imitating my personal experiences with psychedelics in the past.
