超連射 68K / Cho Ren Sha 68K - 2-ALL Clear 21,2 Million

Old replay from 2013 that I never uploaded. Turn on subtitles for some extra comments here and there. Cho Ren Sha is one of the oldest doujin shmups out there. It originally came out in 1995 on the X68000 and was later ported to Windows in 2001. The game got a patch last year to make the game more compatible with modern PC’s, 12 years after the last patch. A combination of being one of the first and it being a really good game in general, is what makes Cho Ren Sha a very iconic game. It does a very good job of feeling like a Toaplan game. Very fast-paced game with minimal bullets, but they are pretty fast. Powerups in this game come in a ring of three and are dropped by the big red enemies, these are: Power up! - Powers up your shot. Bomber! - Gives you a bomb. Shield! - Gives you a one-hit shield. Once you’re maxed out on a certain powerup you’ll get score for them instead, which will keep increasing until the max of 25600. After every 1 million points, one of the items on the ring will be replaced by a 1-up. Normally you can only pick one powerup, but by going inside the ring and staying inside it for a few seconds, you can collect all of them at once. This is of course very important for survival and scoring. The game has 2 loops with a TLB at the end of the 2nd loop. In the 2nd loop all enemies will fire aimed suicide bullets at you when you kill them. There are a couple of ways to score in this game. - Stage-end bonuses is where the bulk of your score will come from. You get 50k per life, 20k per bomb and 50k if you have a shield at the end of the stage. The more lives you get from scoring, the bigger the stage-end bonus will become and the faster you’ll gain extends for even more score. If you can keep up the no-miss while scoring very well, you can get a silly amount of extends and score. - Being maxed out on powerups and continually getting the max points of 76,800 per item ring. - Killing as many enemies as possible, some enemies and bosses will release extra enemies once you damage them to a certain point or stall them enough. You can milk these for points. If you die, you lose all of your power. This is hugely detrimental because your shot is very weak at zero power. Once you die, it’s not uncommon to fall into a downwards spiral until you run out of resources. You want to avoid dying at any cost.
