Lyrica Classic presents - Vocalise by Sergey Rachmaninoff

Vocal trio Melody and organist Marianna Visotskaya perform Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise“ at the Moscow Catholic Cathedral as a part of our festival Spread New Music to the World, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Russia. Today marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff, one of the most celebrated composers and pianists of the 20th century.🎉🎉🎉 Throughout his career, Rachmaninoff composed a wide range of music, including symphonies, concertos, choral works, and chamber music. In 1917, following the Russian Revolution, Rachmaninoff and his family left Russia and eventually settled in the U.S. Rachmaninoff’s decision to emigrate was largely driven by the political and social instability in Russia at the time, as well as concerns about the safety and well-being of his family. In addition, the Bolsheviks who had come to power in 1917 were hostile to the cultural elite and viewed Rachmaninoff as one of its representatives from an “old order“ that needed to be changed or destroyed. After arriving in America, Rachmaninoff became a popular figure in America’s music scene. His immigration had a profound impact on American audiences, who were captivated by his unique musical style and sensibility. Happy birthday, Sergey Vasilyevich! 💐💐💐
