Ismailiyya Palace in Baku

𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗜𝗝𝗔𝗡 ISMAILIYYA PALACE IN BAKU This stunning building in Venetian Gothic style was built in 1908-1913 and was designed by the Polish architect Józef Płoszko. The palace was constructed for the Muslim Charity Society at the expense of the wealthy oil baron Agha Musa Naghiyev in commemoration of his deceased son Ismayil, who died young of Tuberculosis. Legend has it that Naghiyev sent Płoszko on a long tour of Europe in search of inspiration. This was Płoszko’s first independent project during the 30 years he lived in Baku and remains his most iconic. During the March Days in 1918 the building suffered damage from fire and warfare.
