Primitive Cattail Boat vs. Ocean Waves

For more than two years I have pondered the idea of making a primitive boat and using it to fish on the ocean. I have had many design ideas for making a bushcraft boat but finally I just decided on an ocean kayak design and bundled together about eighty pounds (36 kilos) of cattail leaves and then carried the small sea vessel over two kilometers to the launch site. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the resilience, durability and ease of maneuvering this kayak on the ocean with just one simple oar that I quickly put together. Building a cattail or tule boat is definitely a useful survival skill. This boat measures about 14 feet ( meters) by 30 inches (76 centimeters).
