Maris Jansons, Berliner Philharmoniker – Weber: Oberon Overture (excerpt)

In this live recording from 2000, recorded in Tokyo, the Berliner Philharmoniker, under the direction of Maris Jansons perform Carl Maria von Weber’s Oberon-Overture which is one of the most famous pieces written by von Weber. The premiere in London in 1826 was a huge success for the composer who sadly passed away a couple of weeks later. The opera Oberon, and especially the overture will be always remembered. In this video, live from the fantastic Suntory Hall in Tokyo, you can see the deep connection between Maris Jansons and the orchestra. He once said: “I love this orchestra. The musicians are absolute fantastic, they have passion. Their artistic commitment is unbelievable. It is always great joy to play with them.” This video is part of a ground-breaking initiative from Deutsche Grammophon: each month outstanding opera and concert performances from the video catalogue will be released digitally.
