In June of 1954, Avatar Meher Baba planned a 2 day meeting inviting 1000 men to gather at Meherbad, near Ahmednager, in the state of Maharashtra, India. He stated in June 1954 that he was done with giving out messages, and on September 30th he would be giving his final message. He also indicated he would stop using his alphabet board one week after the meeting, which he did in Satara on October 7th, 1954 On the second afternoon of the large gathering, on September 30th 1954, at 3:00pm, under a large canopy at lower Meherabad in front of 968 men , Meher Baba gave his Final Declaration.
