Einstein, 1905

Hey all, Well, this was supposed to be yesterday’s Sunday Morning video, but Toni and I got swept away creating and mixing this track. I started writing “Einstein, 1905” a few months ago—our patrons on Patreon might remember me posting a little snippet of the first few lines when they came to me in the middle of some sleepless night. A couple months passed, I added more lyrics here and there when they popped into my head, and then on this past Saturday night around 6pm, Toni and I sat down to start recording the vocals and guitars. Before we knew it, we had pulled a coffee-fueled all nighter and still wanted to keep adding stuff because the song was turning into something totally unexpected. I originally thought it would be an acoustic guitar and vocals track, but as you can see, we went in a slightly different direction. The next day (Sunday) we spent adding auxiliary things like bongos and the OP1 you see me playing at the mixing desk—a really fun little synthesizer I picked up on a tip from a friend a while back. I recorded the vocals on the SR40V microphone that Earthworks sent me to try out and was blown away by the quality. I’m going to make an in-depth video on the mixing process for this one later this month, so more on that soon. Anyway, we’re really excited about how this turned out and it’s actually going up on Spotify / Apple Music / Tidal later this week, so if you’re into streaming music, look for it over there and give it a spin. This was such a fun little 48 hour project and it inspires me to do more of these creation blitzes. I guess that’s what the Sunday Morning series is, in a way… just an excuse to dive head first into a song each week, and hopefully learn something along the way. I hope you enjoy Einstein, 1905. -R [Lyrics below] Subscribe: Patreon: Watch next: “Cassiopeia“ Thanks so much to our Cidizens on Patreon who made this video possible. Back to you I suppose I’ve been dreaming in all greens and blues the afterimages of the world I knew But Shakespeare way back in the year Of 1602 reminds me above all else to myself be true So I go I remain and I won’t come round again All this space what does it do If it won’t bring me back to you? You don’t need hyperdrives to reach the stars I’ve known galaxies in a broken heart And all my equations and lines my graphs and charts can’t solve the mystery of that endless dark
