DASHEEN BUSH (taro leaves, kalo, elephant ears) Field in Trinidad | K&I

In my #SupportLocal feature today, I am at a Dasheen Bush (taro, kalo, elephant ears) field! It was my first time visiting a dasheen bush field this big, and it was absolute fun! Dasheen Bush by K&I is a family-run business, and they supply dasheen bush to wholesale markets, supermarkets, small markets, restaurants and cafes. Trinbagonians refer to dasheen bush as “bhagi” or “callaloo bush”. In many other countries, it’s known as “taro leaves”. “Elephant ears”, “Polynesian poi”, and “kalo” are other names used. The young leaves cook similar to spinach. The dasheen plant also produces corms and tubers- dasheen/taro & eddoes.
