Flooded habitat - Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

This is the typical habitat of the endangered killifish, Melanorivulus rossoi. The habitat is a flooded depression next to the BR060 highway in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. As it fills with water in the wet season, a huge volume of aquatic plants, mostly Eleocharis sp., Nymphaea sp., Ludwigia sp., Myriophyllum sp., Mayaca sp., Helianthum sp. and others fill the water and margins. This habitat sits right on the divide of the Paraguay and Paraná river basins, so contains species from both regions. In this video you can see the following species: Astyanax sp.
