Wild Goffin’s cockatoos use tool sets / Curr. Biol., Aug. 31, 2021 (Vol. 31, Issue 20)
The use of different tools to achieve a single goal was so far only known in primates. Here, we show how two wild Goffin’s cockatoos (Cacatua goffiniana) use two distinct tool manufacture methods, producing a set of tools to extract seed matter of a tropical fruit. This finding diversifies the phylogenetic landscape of technology and implies convergent evolution of advanced tool use in parrots and primates.
