Critically endangered Bornean orangutan born at Blackpool Zoo 🦧

We’re delighted to announce the birth of our first critically endangered Bornean orangutan for over 20 years! Jingga, who is a first-time mum, gave birth in the early hours on the 14th of June to a healthy baby boy, fathered by Kawan, who joined us in 2022 as part of a recommendation by the International Studbook Keeper, who manages the European breeding programme. With Bornean orangutans being classified as critically endangered, breeding programmes such as the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) are vital for helping this species, especially as they now face an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.
