Lightships (1910-1919)

Lightships (which serve similar function to lighthouses; warning other crafts). Thames Estuary. Trinity House light/buoy tender supporting the Mouse ligthship and others. The Mouse was stationed off Shoeburyness, 4 miles from Maplin Lighthouse. Shot looking down from up in ship’s rigging; of ropes and chains etc. Crew posing on ship - this crew is a motley one. Captain; wearing raincoat w/ hood; at wheel. Then CU a crew member holding up a little wooden doll; making the arms and legs flap up and down - a bizarre looking shot. Almost scary. Looking from one boat (ropes in fg) at another lightship approaching - big light on top. CU same. CU boat going past; men waving. CU light - like a big lamp post. CU small boat rocking in waves; 3 men in it; rope stretching from this little rowing boat to 2 larger boats - hard to say what’s going on (looks like they are taking on more supplies - SL).
