Hitomi Observe Gas Stirring in Persei

This animation shows how bubbles of ultrahot, ionized gas, or plasma, rise from a supermassive black hole (not shown) located at the center of a galaxy cluster. Like spoons that stir milk into a cup of coffee, the bubbles stir the gas (shown in violet) and heat it. (Credit: SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory)
