Not to mention a career in a senior role at the BBC! His current project is Global Soul as co-founder working extensively with new emerging Soul/R&B Artists. Although there are very eminent collectors of this music across the world undoubtedly the main hubs and communities reside primarily in London in the UK and the West Coast in the USA. These are where archivists and diggers have introduced obscure and overlooked music to wider audiences turning them into anthems, in-demand collectors’ items and in some cases mainstream classics. Both of these tight-knit ‘underground’ communities seeking out the same or similar records lived blissfully unaware of each other until the advent of the internet and people started sharing their music beyond local to Global audiences! “As soon as I came across MAJ I was so impressed with the care and attention paid by Zag and Maddie to their set-up in terms of audio quality, the aesthetics of the environment and the depth of knowledge contributors they curate. It is truly a discovery platform where you can dive into a multitude of different styles of music you may never have heard before. Such a joy to discover new music in this way and from those who may not always be known or receive recognition but just have a deep passion and knowledge for the music they are showcasing. So, it is such an honour to be able to share my passion on this wonderful platform. I took great care and put much thought into what to play. I decided against playing any regularly available music and tried to avoid, for the most part, obviousl huge in demand titles. Although I did include a few classics most are lesser known hard to hard-to-find examples all played on OG 45 Vinyl, the preferred format these days for collectors in this genre so will save the album and 12-inch collection for another day! The first half is more focused on the London Steppers sound and the second half more the Lowrider oldies style.
