Identifying Asteroids in PixInsight and the Minor Planet Center

It is very common for astrophotographers to see asteroids moving through their subexposures. This video shows 2 ways to identify the asteroids that are serendipitously “discovered“ - it is a good bit of fun! UPDATE: 2022-01-04 The PixInsight Developers have added more Custom XEPH files making a more complete catalog of asteroids (500,000). The instructions are in this video are still correct... just more files to download/import. As I show in this video, keep the “Asteroids“ layer on as well since it has the 300 largest ones also. NOTE: The MPC method is the authoritative source of information as it is most complete and up-to-date resource. #asteroids #PixInsight #astrophotography More at: Those just starting out in PixInsight will enjoy FastTrack Training!
