Visit Visit our website Made by Norman Schley, a filmmaker based in Waukesha, Wisconsin, this 1950s travelogue presents a vibrant and colorful look at mid-century Acapulco, Mexico, including a bull fight. The film follows the journey of people on a vacation and shows a good mix of tourists and locals. Originally, this film was shown by Schley in front of a live audience, with the filmmaker narrating the entire movie. This version has some music tracks, but was discovered without an existing narration track. A barefoot family with baskets of chili peppers walk by. Shot of the worn looking Cathedral of Acapulco. An old map shows the “Bahia de Acapulco” (1:45). A boy points to the map. Shots of a white villa on a hill. A car approaches. People get out and climb the steps to the villa while people carry their suitcases. They walk around the pool with grass hats and flowers behind their ears. A man rubs oil on a woman’s back. The man jumps off the diving board. A boy’s finger points to the map again. A sign says “Club Sirocco” above a roof of dry palm fronds (3:43). Views of the beach and ocean. A couple in white walk along the shore. Close up of a woman and a young man smiling in the sand. Men show off horses with ribbons braided in their manes. Quick shot of the inside of a small church with candles. Horses and a procession of matadors enter the Plaza de Toros.
