Weekday vibes in the Minyobates (demonic poison frog) vivarium.

MINYOBATES STEYERMARKI, also known as the Venezuelan ’Demonic Poison Frog’, a rare species of poison frogs are endemic to Cerro Yapacana in southern Venezuela, where they only occupy an area no larger than 10km² on an elevation of 600-1300m. In their natural habitat, Cerro Yapacana, gold is mined in an open pit. Meaning most parts of the forest are burned down and chemicals are used in the search for gold by hundreds of illegal goldminers. These activities are a ticking time bomb for these frogs among all the other wildlife in the habitat. Minyobates Steyermarki was already described as critically endangered in 2004 and since added to the IUCN lists of critically endangered species. The most recent assessment of this species, recommend an imediate ex situ conservation captive breeding measure in addition to the already existing offical protection in the natural habitat. (SEÑARIS 2022) By joining C.C. ex situ conservation program we are hopefully able to help reach the future goal of establishing and maintaining at least 110 geneticly diverse breeding adults divided over 20 consistent breeding facilities.
