“Muslim Voters Support Is VERY TROUBLING” | Labour Loses Strongholds To Pro Gaza Candidates

Labour has lost several former strongholds to independent candidates campaigning on pro-Gaza platforms. Shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth lost his Leicester South seat, which had a majority of over 22,000. Labour’s vote dropped by an average of 23 points in areas where 20% or more of the population identify as Muslim. Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting saw his majority in Ilford North cut from over 9,000 to 528. However, Labour managed to win back Rochdale from George Galloway. Despite a landslide victory overall, Labour performed poorly in areas with high Muslim populations, losing five seats—four to independents and one to the Conservatives. In Leicester South, Shockat Adam declared “this is for Gaza“ as he won the seat by 979 votes. The constituency, with around 30% Muslim electorate, had been held by Ashworth for 13 years.
