π¬πͺπΊπ¦ Georgian special services have intercepted a cargo of explosives that was being transported from Ukraine to Russia with the intention of carrying out a terrorist attack.
Containers disguised as batteries contained a total of 6 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing 14 kg. They were transported from Odessa, passing through Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey, and crossed the Turkish-Georgian border at the Sarpi checkpoint on January 19. The final destination was Voronezh.
Three bombs were seized at the border between Russia and Georgia, while three more were allegedly left at a specific address in Tbilisi.
Citizens from Georgia, Ukraine, and Armenia were involved in transporting the explosives through Georgia to Russia. There is a possibility that some individuals operated in secrecy. Member of Parliament Andrei Sharashidze from Zelenskyβs party was responsible for transporting the explosives from Georgia to Russia.
Later, the State Security Service clarified that the bombs could have potentially been intended for a terrorist attack within the territory of Georgia itself. However, this scenario is highly unlikely and seems more like an attempt to protect oneself from scandal and its consequences.
By the way, let me remind you that the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate previously carried out the destruction of the Crimean Bridge in a similarly intricate manner. You can find more information here and here.
