Erin Mourns (1927)

Item title reads: “Erin mourns. Poignant scenes marked passing of Mr. Kevin O’ Higgins - Vice-President, of the free state and one of Ireland’s noblest sons.“ Dublin, Ireland M/S of the funeral procession of mounted and foot soldiers, as it makes its way through the streets lined by crowds on either side. President Cosgrave speaks. M/S of the coffin lying in church. The coffin is next seen on the gun carriage in the street as the funeral procession moves slowly through the streets lined by the huge crowd. Lines of politicians slow march. (01:40:45) The sequence partly repeats as the coffin is mounted on a gun carriage and draped with the Irish flag. The cortege is followed by mourners on foot and in cars. The sequence includes a priest giving the final blessing at the graveside, and soldiers firing a rifle gun salute.
